Kiwifruit
Kiwis are packed with double the amount of Vitamin C as an orange. They are loaded with fiber and have more potassium than a banana! Studies have shown kiwis to protect against heart disease, stroke, cancer, and respiratory disease. Simply eat1- 2 kiwis every day instead of taking an aspirin. Kiwifruit naturally thins the blood without harmful side effects like aspirin has. It also helps in lowering LDL cholesterol, and reducing blood pressure and also helps damaged cells to repair themselves.
California-grown kiwifruit are in season from October through May, and New Zealand kiwifruit are available between April and November.
Cherries
My kids love cherries. They are most nutritious when eaten fresh or frozen. Frozen cherries retain all of their nutritional value. Cherries are high in iron and low in calories. Studies have shown that they actually kill cancer cells. Eating cherries helps reduce the risk of colon cancer, heart attack and stroke. They have also been said to curb pain and reduce inflammation. Wash your cherries well, (or buy organic) as cherries tend to have lots of pesticides.
Spinach
My kids love spinach too. They eat it raw and sauteed or steamed. Spinach is good for fighting eye disease and promoting brain function; it guards against certain cancers, heart disease, stroke, and dementia; it lowers blood pressure; and it's great for bone health. Spinach is filled with nutrients, including high amounts of vitamin K, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, magnesium, and iron. Spinach not only kills certain cancer cells but also prevents them from multiplying. Spinach is loaded with Vitamin K which helps calcium adhere to the bones. A half a cup of spinach every day is 500% of your recommended daily amount. Spinach should be eaten on a daily basis. A couple of handfuls of spinach in a homemade smoothie or milkshake may change the color, but you won't taste it. It's soo good for you. Pesticide residue is hard to wash off of spinach leaves, so I always buy organic. It's not all that much more expensive.
Cabbage
Low in calories and high in vitamins K and C (ounce for ounce, cabbage has 10% more vitamin C than an orange), cabbage is known to fight certain cancers and detoxify the body. The more cabbage you eat, the healthier you'll be. In Chinese medicine cabbage has been used to cure constipation, colds, whooping cough, depression , and stomach ulcers. Cabbage is also said to be good for treating bedsores, varicose veins, and arthritis.
The outer leaves of the cabbage contain more calcium than the inside leaves.
Red cabbage has more vitamin C and cancer fighting antioxidants than white cabbages.
Onions
Jennabeth and I love onions. We eat them with everything. Onions are excellent for fighting cancer of the esophagus and stomach; along with fighting other diseases such as heart disease, blood pressure, and high cholesterol. They are said to help prevent the loss of calcium and other bone minerals. Onions are high in vitamin C and other antioxidants. They contain natural antihistamines and help reduce the symptoms of allergies and flu symptoms. Onions also help fight the pain and swelling associated with osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis. They are also extremely rich in sulfur and they have antibiotic and antiviral properties, making them excellent for people who consume a diet high in proteins, fats, or sugars, because they help cleanse the arteries and intestines by stopping the growth of viruses, yeasts, and other disease-causing bacteria.
Onions should be stored at room temperature, but refrigerating them for an hour before you cut them could save you a few tears.
That day I was pretty scared because for some reason my blood pressure was higher than normal, maybe too much salt and stress combined. But as I consulted doctor he suggested me to take levodyn - a pure herbal pills and also intake of raw onion. onions may reduce high blood pressure if consumed regularly, it really works because of its therapeutic virtues.
