Dirt Cake

My kids love Dirt Cake.  My husband loves it even more!
FYI - This is NOT a healthy recipe.  (Like you can't tell by reading the ingredients!)  But it does make a great birthday compromise.  We don't want a rebellion on our hands!

Ingredients:

large package of instant Vanilla pudding
8 ounces of Cream cheese
2 packs of Oreo cookies
8 ounces Cool Whip
gummy worms (optional)
Clean bucket and shovel

Directions:
  • Make sure your bucket and shovel are clean and set aside.  (I have one that I keep in the kitchen and use just for dirt cakes.)
  • Make vanilla pudding.  Follow the directions on the back of the box.  In large mixing bowl combine cool whip, cream cheese, and vanilla pudding.   Blend until thoroughly mixed.
  • Throw all oreos in the food processor and chop until they resemble sand or "dirt". Set aside
Now the fun part:

You should have a bucket and a shovel, a pudding mixture, and a dirt mixture.  Now, you are going to put a layer of pudding in the bottom of the bucket.  On top of that a layer of cookies (or dirt).  Layer again.  You can have as many layers as you want, just be sure that your top layer is cookies.  When you look down into your bucket, it should look like a bucket full of black sand.  Then, if you wish, you can add some gummy worms to the top to make it look real.  = )  Stick the shovel in the top and it looks like you've been to the beach! (as seen above.)

Or you can do something more creative like the picture below...

Terracotta pots are fun to use too....

Have fun!!
