To Go Organic??

Why go organic??
Do you like the idea of eating poisons made to kill bugs?  They are sprayed on our food to kill bugs, and, in the process, they end up seeping into the foods we eat.
Do you like the idea of eating growth hormones that are added to our chicken, beef and pork to grow the animals bigger and  produce more meat (in other words, make more money for the farmers)??  You do realize that this causes early onset of puberty and other problems in young children??

Do I always go organic??
No.  But I do when I can.  I always check prices.  Sometimes it's not that much more to go the organic route.  If I don't have enough...I just do what I can.

Deciding where to spend your money:
The biggest argument against organic foods is that it's too expensive.  I can see that...but you have to decide where you want to spend your money.  You can cut out junk food and sodas and use that money to help with your organic foods.
You can learn to make convenience foods at home.  (You would be shocked at how much you can save if you make most of the food you eat from scratch.)
You can spend more money on avoiding pesticides and additives/preservatives or you can spend your money on extra medicines and doctor visits.
The more nutritious you food, the less will need to eat/buy.  The more nutritious your food, the sooner you will become satisfied.

Easy ways to go organic:
Start with one thing at a time.  If you buy lots of chicken...get only organic chicken.  Then gradually add other things like, milk, eggs, flour...all of your staple things.  Before long, you will realize that most of the food in your pantry is organic.

Eat seasonal.  Eat fresh fruit and berries in the summer and root veggies in the winter.  It's much cheaper to get organic veggies that are in season.

Plant your food yourself.  You know what you planted and what you used as a fertilizer.  It's free and you can put it up for winter (or summer).

Go straight to the farmer.  Ask questions to be sure your local farmer doesn't use pesticides and that he does use fertilizers made my animals that have eaten only organic grains and grasses.  Buy bulk and put it up for winter.

Remember:
Don't give up!  You won't see drastic changes over night.  Be consistent, and in a few months, you will start to notice improvements in over-all health and behavior of your children. You will be able to look back and see all kinds of changes you've been able to make.  Pray about it.  Do what is most important for you and your family right now.  Don't stress over it.  Do what you have money and time for.  God will supply what He wants you to have.  God will bless your efforts and reward you with creative ideas and great deals.

  1. Love this! Thank you for sharing. My family is mostly buying organic food right now, but we did it just like you suggested, by starting with a few things. I haven't read the rest of your series, but I plan on taking a look right now =)
