Keeping Fee Fee Flea Free

So, we got rid of Fee Fee's fleas.

Now, we have to keep Fee Fee flea free!!  It's a never ending chore, but it is possible if we stay on top of it.  Remember we are not going to use synthetic pesticides on poor little Fee Fee.  Being chewed on by fleas is bad enough.  Let's not add insult to injury by poisoning her along with her fleas!

To start with we need to be sure that Fee Fee's skin is healthy.  If the skin is not healthy she'll have higher risk of fleas and other parasites.  Weak or damaged skin allows the fleas to feast without working.  If the skin is already dry and irritated and Fee Fee has been scratching it and making it bleed...the fleas just dig right it.  A better diet may be all it takes to repair Fee Fee's skin.  Regular grooming will help too.  Keeping the skin and hair clean will improve it's condition and kill some of the fleas in the process.

A daily lemon rinse will help too.  All you have to do is slice and soak a lemon in a pint of hot water for several hours.  Then you will remove the lemon and massage the lemon water into Fee Fee's skin.  Do this every day until the skin seems to have improved.  The lemon water will help the skin and also repel fleas for a few days.  Once the skin is repaired you could do this rinse once a week or every time you groom. 

You can also grind up 1-3 cloves of garlic every day and mix it with Fee Fee's food.  Depending on Fee Fee's size.  Garlic is good for the immune system and it will give Fee Fee and smell and a taste that the fleas will want to avoid.  Don't be surprised if Fee Fee's breath smells bad.

You can dust Brewer's Yeast on your pet's coat as a flea deterrent too.  You can also feed it to him in his food.

You can also feed you pet chelated zinc.  That will help keep fleas away and improve Fee Fee's skin.

It will take a while to build up all of these flea fighting powers.  You will need to start this in the spring or about a month before it warms up and the fleas come out to feast!  The good thing is that you are taking good care of Fee Fee and her fleas!  No more chemicals for Fee Fee.  AND you're keeping Fee Fee flea free!!
