When she was finished, she was told how many pieces to cut each of them in. Then, she was told to hand out 2/5 to her brother; 7/8 to her sister and 2/4 to her other sister. Some of these instructions took her a moment of contemplation, but she was eventually able to figure it all out on her own. She loves to help but hates to have any {help} when she's on a kitchen mission, or any mission for that matter.
In fact, she was so determined to carry out her mission well that she didn't realize she was even working with fractions until I told her she could go on ahead and give everyone the rest of their quesadillas. At that point, she looked at me, first in confusion and then the light went went on. "Mom! You just made me do fractions!" When I informed her that she had done them correctly and without any help, she responded, "well, I like to cook, so cooking with fractions isn't as hard as doing them on paper".

Lexxi's Quesadillas:
Two tortilla shells
Leftover chicken and black beans that I had cooked in the pressure cooker a couple of days previously.
Shredded cheddar cheese
Chopped {or scissored} green onions
Cilantro and Garlic to taste
Serve with sour cream, homemade salsa and avocado dip!
Place first tortilla in a pan. Layer the "stuffing" on one tortilla shell. Be sure the first and last layer is a thin layer of cheese to help the tortillas stick. Place the second tortilla on the top of the last layer of cheese. Smash it down with you hand, or just let it melt. Flip the quesadilla to brown the other side and warm it all the way through.
Very easy make and very yummy too. The only problem we have is deciding if this is a better home economics or math class...??
