I started this series a few weeks back, and I named it "Temperature Wars". You see, as moms, you and I are the thermostats of our homes; the spirit of our homes. like I said last week, if there's a bad spirit in my home, there's a big chance it's my fault. There are so many ways that we, as wives and mothers, can warm up our homes. One of the best ways we can warm up our homes is by prayer.
Hebrews 4:16 ~ Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. God has given us the privilege of taking our thoughts and our worries to Him. We don't have to go through a priest or any other man. We can go straight to Him in boldness. This is what we refer to as the "priesthood" of the believer.
There have been many occasions in my parenting career when I've had to realize that I can't do it! I can't be a parent to my child without God and His wisdom. He knows my children better than I do. He knows what they need. He knows their thoughts and their worries. He knows their heart issues. He knows how to handle them much better than I do!
It's also true that we can't be good wives unless we pray and trust God to work through us. God knows what our husbands need. He knows our husband's insecurities and worries better than we do. Those are things men don't care to share all that often. He knows what's going on inside our husband's hearts and minds. He knows way better than we do, how to respond in difficult situations and He will help us in those situations.
Some Scriptures that deal with prayer:
Matthew 21:22 ~ And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Have you ever read the story of the 2 blind men that were healed in Matthew 9:27-29? Jesus healed them according to their faith. The exact words that Jesus used were "According to your faith be it unto you.". Did you ever wonder if one of them saw more clearly after being healed than the other due to having more faith? Do you ever wonder if we could have our prayers answered in a greater, swifter way if we had more faith? Sometimes we hinder our own prayers by not having as much faith as we should have.
John 15:7 ~ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. If we abide in Him and He abides in us we will ask according to His will. Have you ever wanted to pray for a certain thing, but just didn't feel that it was right? That's because the Holy Spirit leads us in our praying. Have you ever prayed for something that you didn't even know about? That sounds like a silly question, but I had a situation once where one of my children were sick. Very sick! I was lead to pray that she wouldn't have any lasting emotional or mental problems due to the sickness. Later, when we were sure that she would be OK, the doctor told me that many children with that particular sickness don't survive and normally have lasting brain damage or personality changes. I honestly believe that God lead me to pray in that way for her.
1 John 5:14-15 ~ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. We know that it IS His will that we pray for our children and our husbands. We know that it IS His will that they are saved and make wise decisions. We know that IS His will that they learn to obey (immediately; with a happy heart and a right spirit). We know that it IS His will for us to be the best moms and wives that we can be. If you know that something is God's will, then you can ask for it, in faith, and know that He will provide! He Will answer your prayers!
There are so many verses about prayer! I could never exhaust this topic. I will be discussing this topic during next Thursday's "Thermostat Wars" as well. I hope to encourage you by reminding you that God is here and He is ready to answer your prayers. He's waiting on you to turn to Him. He takes pleasure in our prayers and He answers them for His own glory!

Prayer is a rock for me! When I get off balance, full of fear and doubt, or whatever, I know it is because my prayer life is lacking.
