Birthday Wreath

To decorate our house for birthdays we made a birthday wreath!  It was easier and more fun (not to mention costs less!) than putting balloons out every time there was a birthday.  We hang it on the front door so that everyone who sees it will know that someone in our family is having a birthday.   The kids love it!  We leave it up for the entire week of the birthday in honor of the Birthday boy or girl.

The kids and I made this wreath together about 4 years ago.  It's a little bit smaller than I'd like it to be.  I keep saying that I'm going to make a bigger one, but we haven't yet.

To make our wreath we used:
  • a grape vine wreath from the Dollar Tree
  • wooden balloons that we painted and glued on there
  • some very colorful ribbons that I already had in the basement
It was fun and easy and only cost me about $3.00.  There are so many things you could use to make a birthday wreath.  Let your kids help you and have fun hanging it up on everyone's birthday.  It's a birthday tradition that we love at our house! (Even my husband get's into this one.  He unpacked it and hung it on the door a week ago when we moved in in honor of Meghan's 7th birthday.)

All you need is a wreath and some hot glue and a little creativity.  Some, ribbon, raffia, wrapped "gifts" or maybe a painted birthday cake with "Happy Birthday" written on it...there is no end to the ideas you can come up with.

It's a simple thing, but think of all the memories your children will have because of it.  Let me know if you make one and post a picture of it to my face book wall so we can all see it.  It will be fun to see everyone's wreaths...or other ideas if you have other traditions you do at your house.
