Saving money is sometimes easier said than done. Last year my husband and I claimed February as a "no spend" month. Now, I know what you're thinking. How can she possibly not spend anything!
I guess I should have revised that. February became our "no extra spending" month.
We all do it.
We all buy things that aren't necessary. Magazines, Starbucks, movie rentals, eating out. You name it. There are things purchased that aren't a need. They aren't food. They don't cover a true emergency. The car has a flat tire emergency, not mom's too tired to cook emergency.
It's really a perfect way to start, or add to, a savings! The money normally spent on the extras go directly into savings. Perhaps you have a big purchase coming up, this would be perfect to do a month of two before buying it!
Of course, if you really want to save money, make this a lifestyle!
I like doing this ever so often because it teaches discipline. It makes you rethink every purchase. Do I really need this? Plus, once you've stopped spending money on the extras it is usually harder to go back to buying them (or at least as often) once the month if over.

"Financial diets" are hard, but they really do help change how we think about money and what we do with it. I'm glad yours has been working out well!
ReplyDeleteI've been blogging about my spending on food. I'm also going to make it a priority to only spend money on needs for the month of March. WE'll see how it goes :) :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
