Oil Pulling

A few months ago, I ran across an article called, "Do you pull?"   My first thought was, "if pulling and dragging are the same thing, then I pull several kids and all their junk around with me everywhere I go"!

Then I began to read the article, and what I read was very interesting.  {Can't remember where I found it, or I would link you over to it.}

Did you know you can use oil to whiten your teeth, freshen your breath, and even help you detox??

I didn't.

How to "Pull":

It's actually very simple.  All you do is put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth.  {There are several you can choose from.  The oils that were recommended - if I remember correctly - were safflower oil, coconut oil, olive oil and almond oil.  I, personally, prefer coconut oil.}  So, you put the oil in your mouth and swish it around, or "pull" it back and forth through your teeth and all around your mouth for 15 -20 minutes.

The oil does NOT kill any germs, it simply traps them all.  For this reason, you must be very careful NOT TO SWALLOW any of it.  Swallowing this bacteria laden oil could actually make you sick due to poison over load in your stomach.  Your mouth naturally has tons of bacteria and toxins in it, much more than your stomach.

If you can keep this oil in your mouth successfully {and by "successfully", I mean don't swallow or spit any of it down the front of your shirt like I did the first time. ~  In my defense, my husband was making fun of me and made me laugh.  :)} for 15 -20 minutes and then spit it out, you will have removed millions of bad breath causing germs and bacteria from your body, strengthened the enamel on your teeth and removed germs that could cause colds, flu and other viruses.  The article said that it very well could help with other problems such as eczema and other skin conditions.  This stuck out to me because I have been blessed with not-so-nice skin.

FYI: I have since looked into the idea of "pulling" and found that it is successful, but you very well may end up vomiting toxins the first time you try it.  I didn't have this problem at all.  I guess it depends on you and how often you detox.

And, did I mention this is a great way to whiten your teeth without using chemicals?  I don't think your teeth will ever become as stark white as some of these other store brand teeth whitening kits claim to do, but they should whiten up to a very natural, clean looking white.  Much cheaper than those other teeth whitening kits also.  :)

If you are in need some coconut oil, or simply don't know where to find it, you can click the picture link below to order your oil.  They have quality product and great prices!  We use their oil for much more than just oil pulling!

  2. It is kinda a weird thing to have oil in your mouth. I gagged the first time too, but I got used it and I can do it easily now. I try to do things like wash the dishes or fold the laundry while I'm pulling. :)
