Better than Great Riches!!

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour than silver and gold. ~ Proverbs 22:1

Choosing names for our children was a big deal to me!  I was determined to choose a name that was different and yet not strange.  I wanted the boys to have very strong, masculine names and the girls to have cute, little, feminine names.

To me, the name of my child was the first thing I would be able to give him or her.  It was something that the child would take with them throughout their lives.  Something that they could make great and improve on, or they could be careless and ruin it in an instant.  Either way, it was a gift that I gave them out of love and prayer and much consideration.  What they do with it now and later is up to them.

The Bible says, "even a child is known by his doings".  I tell my children all the time, "you are known by the things you do and say; the attitude you have; and even the things you wear".  Do you wear a smile or a frown?  Are you a happy, thankful person or a grumpy complainer? Are your clothes neat and matching or frumpy?  What about your hair?  Do you look like a lady or a man?  And, don't forget about your actions!  The things we do determine what people think of us - they affect our name.

The good news is that God loves us.  Even when we fail Him, {Notice I used the work 'when' not 'if' because we all fail Him.} He wants us to come back to Him.  When we do, He will be there to love us and help us improve our name or our reputation.  God can remake you into the person He wants you to be.

Have you heard the story of the young married couple that drive around town sitting right next to each other in the cab of his truck?  30 years go by and the wife remarks one day as they drive down the road about how close they used to sit all the time.  "Do you remember those days?"  she asks her husband.  "I haven't moved" the husband replies.

It's the same with God.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  He doesn't love you any less or more today than He did yesterday or last year or when you were a child.  Sometimes we go through things.  Some of those things may be our fault.  Some of them may be things we can't do anything about, but regardless of what we've been through, we can know without a doubt that God loves us as much as He ever has!  He hasn't moved His position.  He hasn't left us.  We are the ones that have done the moving.  We are the ones that have changed positions.

If your good name has been damaged, you can turn it over to God and let Him heal you.  His mercies are new every morning.

Just like Bathsheba, {who was knows across her entire country for having an adulterous affair with King David}, was used to teach men the world over what to look for in a woman and gave women a goal to strive toward.....God can re-make each of us into a beautiful vessel meat for the Master's hands....  He can turn you around and make you more beautiful than you ever imagined!!

You can't get away from your name.  It's something that sticks with you.

What do people think of when they hear mention of YOUR name??

Has your name been damaged?  There is hope!  God loves you and His mercies are new every morning.  He's waiting for you to return to Him so that He can love you and heal your heart and your name.

Is your name still good?  Let us continue to pray that God will keep it that way and even improve it more and more.
