Halloween

What comes to your mind when you hear the word, "Halloween"?  Witches, goblins, ghosts, black cats, jack-o-lanterns and "treats" or candy.  Right?  We don't celebrate Halloween at our house and here's why.  None of this is my own opinion, rather it's all facts and Bible verses.

Facts:

  • Halloween is the second most financially profitable holiday in the U.S.  {Only Christmas is first.}
  • October 31st is the eve of the Celtic new Year, Samhain {pronounced sow-wen}.  Satanists believe this is the time when the veil separating the world of the living from the world of the dead is the thinnest.
  • The souls of those who died throughout the year are believed to revisit their homes for the final time on this pagan New Year's Eve.
  • According to Celtic tradition, this New Year's Eve day was the only day on which the help of the devil could be invoked for divination concerning marriage, luck, health and death.
  • The idea of  "Trick or Treat" evolved from the belief that dead spirits were demanding some proof that you believe they exist.  If you couldn't "prove" that you believed it, you could expect a trick.  {And not a funny, happy, practical joke either!}
  • Anton LeVey, head of the worshipers of Satan and author of the satanic bible said he was "glad Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year".
Some Bible Verses about Satan Worship:
  • Ephesians 5:11 ~ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
  • Deuteronomy 18:9-12 ~ When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.  For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doeth drive them out from before thee.
  • Leviticus 19:32 ~ Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord you God.
  • Acts 19:18-19 ~ And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.  Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
  • I Thessalonians 5:21-22 ~ Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.  Abstain from all appearance of evil.

 Deuteronomy 11:19 ~ And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

 More Bible Verses for You to Look Up:

  • God commanded those who practice witch craft to be put to death:  {Exodus 22:18; Micah 5:12; 2 Kings 23:24}
  • You are defiled if you try to communicate with spirits.  {Leviticus 19:31}
  • God cuts you off from among the people if you turn to mediums for help. {Leviticus 20:27}
  • God condemns witchcraft, fortune-telling, crystal reading, necromancy, astrology, and palmistry as part of spiritism. {Deuteronomy 18:10-12; Joshua 13:22; leviticus 19:26; numbers 24:1; II Kings 17:17; II Kings 21:6; II Chronicles 33:6}
  • King Saul, when faithful to God, cleared the land of spiritual mediums. {I Samuel 28:3}  Later he sought a medium because his sin kept God from answering him.  {I Samuel 28:6-7}  God judged and killed King Saul for his dealings of spiritism. {I Chronicles 10:13}
  • King Manasseh's sins include consulting with spirits, mediums, fortune tellers and sorcerers.  {2 Chronicles 33:6}
  • God rejected Israel because they practiced magic and communicated with evil spirits. {Isaiah 2:6}
  • It is insulting to God when you consult the dead when you could inquire of Him.  {Isaiah 8:19}
  • A fortune teller may be possessed with devils  {Acts 16:16-18}
  • Christians should have nothing to do with black magic and its related practices. {Acts 19:19}
  • Sorcery is included in the works of the flesh listed in the Bible, and those who practice it cannot inherit the kingdom of God.  {Galatians 5: 19 -21}

  1. We don't celebrate Halloween either and your posts sums up our reasons perfectly!

    We do, however, have a "Reformation Day" potluck with the Young Couples in our church at a school gym so that we can fellowship with each other in lieu of handing out candy to the little goblins at our door!

  2. I have always wondered why Christian people turn their lights off or leave on Halloween. I understand your views on this...but would there be any harm of having treats and a TRACT ready in a little treat bag for those that do visit your door. Most people in the world don't know all this information and it would be a great tool to use for passing out tracts. But thats just my opinion :)

  3. Glad to see more Christians stepping up to plate on this dark day coming out of the "gray area" and calling it what it is. ~Annonumous though this is a dark day and telling more and more about what the true meaning is so that more could make a difference decision is what we want, for us we go back and forth with giving out candy and tracks because that is still partaking. I share with as many as I can weeks before t his day in hoping to reach just one person in them deciding NOT to partake at all in this dark day...

  4. I know exactly what you mean! You wonder if it's better to hand out candy and tracts and use it as an outreach of sorts, or if you should completely ignore the whole thing and have noting to do with it because it's not something Christians should be participating with. I know what you mean...I'm really shocked at the amount of Christians who participate and the excuses that they make for it..and by "participate" I mean...actually "trick or treat".
