In a Snack Rut??

Sometimes we think it's harder than it is to fix our families healthy food.  Especially on the go.  Here are some quick and easy snacks that your kids will love them...at least mine do.  =)

  • Spread some peanut butter in some celery.  I have a kid that chokes on celery, so I give her apple slices with peanut butter.
  • Organic vanilla yogurt (do NOT get the fat-free or the sugar-free!) with blueberries, strawberries, or dark chocolate chips
  • Dried fruit
  • Nuts and seeds
  • String cheese and/or pretzels
  • Healthier chip alternatives:   Tia Chips, tortilla chips {I love the "Garden of Eaten" brand}, pretzels, whole wheat crackers with dip,  microwave popcorn {actually, I try to avoid using my microwave but when certain people want certain things....;)}, be sure your chips are flavored with all natural ingredients and NO MSG! serve with homemade dip
  • Whole wheat crackers with avocado dip
  • Cheese with whole wheat crackers
  • Whole wheat chocolate chip cookies
  • Granola bars - homemade granola bars
  • Boiled eggs
  • Home canned fruit (with yogurt or cottage cheese if you like it)
  • Toast or biscuits with raw honey
  • Oatmeal with honey, cinnamon, raw brown sugar or pure maple syrup
  • Raw vegetables with homemade ranch dressing
  • Mini peanut butter sandwiches made with whole wheat crackers.  I put about 3 to a bag.
  • Raisins, peanuts and dark chocolate chip - throw a few each in a snack size bag
  • 100% all natural popsicles (made from real fruit) You can buy them or make your own.
These are just a few options.  I like to bag up snacks in little baggies.  Then store them in a "snack basket".  **The snacks that are in green are easy to bag up and keep for later.**  I keep some where children and husband can reach them.  I keep the rest in a hidden place so the snack stash can last longer than 3 days. :)  I also try to provide different snacks every week so we don't get tired of the same old things.

If you need a quick snack or something healthy to throw in the diaper bag...just grab it out of the cabinet and go!!  You really will be amazed at the money you can save when you make your own convenience food/snacks...not to mention the health benefits!
